🚀 Join the team powering the future of digital credentials!

Accredible, the world’s leading digital credential platform, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to help us build the next generation of products that empower millions of learners and professionals across the globe.

This isn’t your average coding gig. You’ll be a core contributor to the engine behind www.credential.net, dashboard.accredible.com alongside other mission-critical web applications, architecting slick new features, optimizing performance, and squashing bugs. Working at scale, writing clean, testable code that serves millions of users every month. Your work will be centered around data modelling at scale, utilising multiple tools, including:

  • Ruby on Rails for our core API applications
  • Java powering our robust Data Backbone
  • Serverless Ruby apps via AWS Lambda
  • Terraform for infrastructure as code

You don’t have to be expert in all of these; what matters most is your ability to learn and grow and we’ll support you every step of the way.

🎯 Who you are

You’re a seasoned backend developer who geeks out over clean data models, loves solving real-world problems, and is always up for a new challenge. You know how to balance innovation with reliability, and you write code that makes future-you (and your team) proud.

💻 What you’ll be doing

  • Designing, building, and scaling backend systems that are the backbone of our credentialing products and deliver solutions to problems.
  • Writing, maintaining and reviewing code, focusing upon the backend tech stack.
  • Getting your hands dirty with data modeling and smart architecture decisions.
  • Collaborating with a sharp, friendly global engineering team to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • Supporting existing services and helping us launch brand-new ones.
  • Code review of team member’s work, with a focus upon security, design and maintainability.
  • Contributing to the product and design decisions to ensure we build a good product.
  • Ensuring that our logical and physical data model is fit for purpose.
  • Mentoring other team members, to help them grow in their craft.

🧠 How we work

In this role, you will be responsible for a product or a significant feature area and yes, we expect quality. But you’ll also receive regular, thoughtful feedback and coaching to help you grow.

Reporting to our Staff Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with a global team of Backend & frontend engineers, DevOps specialists, QA engineers, UI/UX designers and a dedicated product manager!

We work in a fast paced environment, we’re agile, iterative, and test-heavy—we ship multiple times a week! You’ll join daily standups and participate in cross-functional collaboration to ensure we output code that’s clean, reviewed, and constantly improved.

🧭 Why you’ll love it here

  • Autonomy & trust – You’ll have decision-making power from day one
  • Democratic team culture – Your voice matters in shaping the product and the process
  • Smart, kind teammates – Work with people who care about what they do and each other
  • Mission with impact – Help learners, educators, and organizations around the world unlock potential
  • Results Oriented. Know what you’re trying to achieve, and measure progress.
  • Proactive. Say “I intend to…” instead of waiting for permission.
  • Dependable. Commit responsibly, follow through, and be intentional and open in delegating or dropping tasks where necessary.
  • Prioritizer. Able to make high-leverage impacts on key areas.
  • Bias to Action. Find ways forward and iterate with small steps to move quickly.
  • Humble in feedback and debate. Be more like scientists, and welcome data driven debates that deliver the best possible outcome.
  • Supportive. Understand that we win or lose as a team, and support those around you.
  • Ambitious. Aim to be the best.
  • Builder. Look for opportunities to improve processes, people, teams, and everything else.
  • Great Communicator. Be succinct, create space for others to speak, and strive to benefit the atmosphere in a room.

👀 What we’re looking for

  • Rails/Ruby/similar experience. You have used Rails or a similar framework professionally with thorough testing, and a sound code-review process for at least 3 years, preferably in a SaaS environment.
  • Backend web technologies experience. You have been developing on the backend for at least 5 years. You have some experience of relational databases, scaling applications and solving challenging technical problems.
  • Database optimization. You have a good understanding of different kinds of databases, and you have experience optimizing query performance in some of these. Experience with analytics is a welcome bonus.
  • Data modelling. You understand both the logical and physical data model. You ensure that any physical model you create is geared towards the queries you write but also keep in mind the results presented should be based upon the logical model.
  • Testing expertise. You are comfortable with unit and integration testing on the Backend.
  • Build & deploy. You have experience in, or understanding of, various ways of doing iterative feature releases, incl. but not limited to - feature flagging, blue/green deployments, dark launch etc.
  • Solution design. You are able to gather information on business requirements and use your knowledge of a product’s capabilities to design solutions to those requirements.
  • Learn quickly. You have the ability to quickly absorb and make use of new information. You can research best practices and make use of them.
  • Enthusiastic. You want to learn, grow and are excited to take on new challenges.
  • Independent Problem solving. You are able to independently solve difficult technical and presentational problems and provide solutions or workarounds. You ask for help when you need it but try to solve things yourself.
  • Attention to detail. You don't let important details slip through the cracks.
  • Organization & Planning. You plan, organize and schedule in an efficient manner. You know which priorities are important and choose to work on those. You don't need constant input but are able to ask for help when needed.

🌟 What we offer

  • Competitive salary.
  • 35 days annual vacation.
  • Generous sick time and compassionate leave to support our team members’ health needs, and physical and mental well-being.
  • Flexible hours & remote work; while we fully support digital nomads, you must be able to align with your team’s predominant time zones.
  • A high-energy, collaborative, and supportive high-growth organization backed by some of Silicon Valley's top venture capital investors.
  • Two hours per week (paid) to spend learning anything you like related to your role, plus a budget to spend on learning materials (courses, books, conferences). We love education and we believe in nurturing your growth!
  • A promise to invest in your growth personally and professionally. Wherever you would like to go and whatever you would like to do, we will be there to support you.
