About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced UX Design manager to lead and shape the user experience for our air pollution intelligence and response products. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, impactful designs that serve multiple stakeholders across governments, businesses, and the general public (B2G, B2B, B2C). Your expertise in data visualization, spatial-temporal design, and user-centric product development will be key to driving the success of our solutions.

As a leader in our UX design team, you will champion the UX voice throughout the product development process and use your deep understanding of the market and communities we’re serving to ensure the highest design standards are met. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and scientists to ensure that designs are not only beautiful and functional but also aligned with product requirements and real-world user goals.

Key Responsibilities

UX Design Leadership:

  • Advocate for the user’s perspective in all discussions, ensuring that the final product meets the needs and expectations of various stakeholders (B2G, B2B, B2C).

  • Guide design solutions from early exploration through final high-fidelity visuals, ensuring designs are user-centric, data-driven, and aligned with business objectives.

  • Provide leadership in evolving our UX and product design practices, ensuring they stay ahead of industry trends, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Help build, lead, and mentor a team of designers to deliver exceptional UX across multiple product areas, ensuring personal growth, development, and alignment with company objectives.

  • Foster a collaborative, creative, and inclusive environment where team members feel supported and empowered to contribute their best work.

Data Visualization & Spatial-Temporal Design:

  • Leverage your expertise in data visualization to create clear, engaging, and actionable representations of air quality data to across a spectrum of stakeholders. Ensure that complex data sets are accessible, actionable, and tailored to the needs of diverse user groups.

  • Design spatial-temporal experiences that allow users to interact with and interpret real-time, geospatially-sensitive data related to air pollution levels.

Collaborative Product Development:

  • Work closely with product managers to translate product requirements and use cases into effective design solutions.

  • Collaborate with developers and scientists to ensure seamless implementation of design concepts, providing guidance throughout the development process.

  • Conduct user research, testing, and feedback sessions to refine designs and ensure they address specific user goals and real-world problems.

  • Deliver comprehensive design documentation, including task flows, wireframes, prototypes, interaction mockups, and high-fidelity UI designs.

Design Deliverables:

  • Produce design artifacts for each step of the product development lifecycle, from initial design exploration to final UI designs, ensuring consistency and clarity across all stages.

  • Create detailed user journey maps, interaction flows, wireframes, and prototypes to communicate design decisions effectively.

  • Develop high-fidelity visual designs and UI components that adhere to design systems and maintain consistency across products.

Stakeholder Engagement & Design Advocacy:

  • Serve as the primary advocate for the user experience, ensuring that the needs of diverse stakeholders are balanced while maintaining a user-centric focus.

  • Present and communicate design concepts and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives, product managers, scientists, and engineers.

  • Ensure design solutions are aligned with business goals, regulatory requirements, and user needs while keeping the product vision intact.

Process Innovation & Improvement:

  • Innovate upon and continuously improve our UX processes to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and the quality of design outputs.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, new tools, and techniques in UX design and data visualization to push the boundaries of what's possible in climate tech.

  • Establish, uphold, and refine design best practices that align with company values and goals.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in UX design with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design deliverables, including data visualization, spatial-temporal design, and UI design.

  • At least 2 years of people management experience, with a proven track record of mentoring and leading design teams.

  • Strong experience designing products for varied stakeholders, including government (B2G), businesses (B2B), and consumers (B2C).

  • Experience working closely with product managers, scientists, and developers to create user-centered designs that meet business requirements and user goals.

Skills:

  • Proven expertise in designing data-driven experiences, with a particular focus on data visualization and spatial-temporal interfaces (e.g., mapping, geospatial data) that drive real world impact.

  • Ability to produce design deliverables for every stage of the product development process, from research and wireframes to high-fidelity UI designs.

  • Strong proficiency with design tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD) and prototyping tools (e.g., InVision, Axure, Framer).

  • Experience with user research methodologies, including interviews, usability testing, and surveys.

Pay Transparency

The base salary range for this full-time exempt position if located in the SF Bay Area, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, or Seattle metro region is $122,000 - $170,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, and are informed by current market data provided by Carta Total Comp.

Within those ranges, individual pay is determined by exact region and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The hiring manager can share more about the specific salary range for your geographic region during the hiring process. Employee must continue to reside within 90 miles of location used to determine starting salary, otherwise Aclima reserves the right to make regional adjustments to pay.
