Asana

New York, NY, USA
Posted on Thursday, August 17, 2023

We are looking for an empathetic, product-focused Tech Lead (TL) to lead our brand new Dependency Planning team. This team’s vision is to enable teams to plan their work and adapt those plans effortlessly in real-time. The Dependency Planning team will achieve their vision by allowing users to model & visualize the relationships between projects, tasks, and time. As the TL for this team, you will work closely with cross-functional peers to understand the team’s long-term priorities, build a technical roadmap that supports those priorities, and ensure that we’re making smart technical decisions along the way.

The Dependency Planning team will be the fourth team within our Coordinate area, which focuses on core surface areas of the Asana product, namely projects & tasks. Our Product Engineering teams build features end-to-end. From designing our data models to implementing the subtle interaction behaviors that differentiate good software from great software. We work closely with UI designers and are supported by our infrastructure team. We aim to delight users with both large new features and smaller, daily product enhancements—thanks to our continuous deployment architecture. We want to create a superlative user experience, down to the smallest details.

This role is based in our New York City office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. Along with most Asanas, you’ll work from this office in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you're interviewing for this role, your Talent Acquisition Partner will share more about the in-office requirements.

  • Lead and contribute to the design and architecture of complex technical solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and prioritize technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Mentor and up-level both junior and senior engineers on the team, through activities like pairing and code reviews to promote a culture of technical excellence

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, evaluating their potential applications within the team's scope.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, growth, and knowledge sharing within the team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective collaboration and technical alignment.

About you

  • 5+ years of software development experience with expertise in full stack engineering, including 1+ year of experience as an engineering team technical lead.

  • Technical mastery and proficiency in one or more programming languages, frameworks, and technologies (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Scala, React).

  • Track record of leading and contributing to complex technical designs and architectures.

  • Passion for mentoring engineers of all experience levels and fostering collaboration and psychological safety among team members.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Proven experience working cross-functionally with stakeholders, including Product Management (PM), Design, and Data Science partners, to manage risks, make tradeoffs, and align on long-term plans.

  • Strong commitment to staying up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
