Role Description

We are looking for an exceptional manufacturing engineering leader to build the mission-driven team that develops equipment, processes and metrology methods for our proprietary iron anode, the core of our battery technology. You and your team will design and deploy the manufacturing systems ranging from from pilot scale to highly automated, continuous processes with comprehensive metrology.

As a senior leader in our advanced manufacturing organization, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to build from a blank slate, tackle the toughest company challenges, use first principles fundamentals and develop the most advanced high-volume battery manufacturing in the world.

This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA facility. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Build and lead a world-class manufacturing development team that will translate new anode materials and designs from the lab to robust high volume equipment sets and processes.

  • Define and implement best practices for anode manufacturability assessment, design for manufacturing, manufacturing cost modeling, and manufacturing partner qualification.

  • Work closely with the design, R&D & other manufacturing engineering teams to integrate DfM & process control feedback to continuously improve cost and quality.

  • Develop pilot, low volume and high volume anode manufacturing equipment sets and execute on the plan for process stability.

  • Define, develop, and implement metrology and quality control methods.

  • Own the process of handing off stable manufacturing systems to operations teams.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years manufacturing experience, ideally, in one or multiple of the following fields: high temperature furnaces, presses, powder handling, sintering, welding & automation.

  • Experience building and leading a world-class manufacturing engineering team.

  • Expertise in driving process & equipment maturity to enable high volume manufacturing.

  • Experience in championing Design For Manufacturing (DFM) & Process definition with product design & R&D teams.

  • Experience in championing the effective transition of the manufacturing systems to the operations teams.

  • Line design, installation, commissioning, and production ramp experience.

  • Experience owning the design and development of custom manufacturing equipment via internal teams and in partnership with equipment suppliers and automation vendors.

  • Demonstrated experience driving down manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality for complex electromechanical assemblies.

  • B.S. or higher in engineering or physical science(s).
