Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Test Engineer to join our Test Engineering team. In this position, you will design, develop, and implement test strategies and prioritizing tests, in partnership with design teams, to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of our energy storage products. You will leverage your strong background in mechanical and electrical component-level and system-level functional testing skills in order to succeed in this position. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!
Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
End-to-End Test Leadership: Act as a subject matter expert for hardware integrated systems, leading end-to-end test campaigns from concept to final validation while solving complex issues that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Leadership and ownership from high level to hands-on task level specificity is a must.
Fixtures, Infrastructure & Automation Strategy: Design and approve critical test fixtures and infrastructure that impacts multiple teams, architect comprehensive automation strategies, and define the sensor and data acquisition strategy for new and existing programs leveraging hands-on experience and actual technical outcomes. Specifically, this will include electromechanical test systems and high-voltage architectures.
Technical Delegation & Team Facilitation: Act as a technical leader by determining methods and procedures on new projects, coordinating the activities of cross-functional personnel, and delegating troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts with junior and peer engineers.
Cross-Functional Design Influence: Influence design decisions by representing the Test Engineering organization in high-level design, technical, and change reviews and driving cross-functional alignment on validation plans to ensure there are no gaps in product coverage.
Operational Excellence: Establish the organizational standard for test reporting and data integrity, standardize testing philosophies to ensure consistency, and propose new technologies or tools to improve org-level efficiency.
Proactive Block Removal & Capacity Planning: Model initiative by deliberately removing blockers for others, anticipating long-term resource needs, and advising management on capacity planning
Analytical Prowess: Establish active and passive complex data collection pipelines and provide timely analysis of test data, including potentially at external laboratories, test sites, and customer locations. Proactively correlate test data to theoretical models and simulations and reflect findings to design partners.
Experienced Communicator: Prepare and deliver detailed test reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for design enhancements or corrective actions with senior management and above.
What you'll bring:
Subject Matter Expertise: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 7-10 years of deep technical experience in Test Engineering, data analysis, and a proven track record of leading complex hardware verification programs. Advanced degrees may substitute work experience.
Air and Liquid Electromechanical/Thermomechanical Systems Experience: Several years of hands-on experience with air and liquid handling/circulation systems. Test engineering backgrounds focusing on thermal and thermomechanical systems preferred.
Data-Driven Strategy: Expertise in defining end-to-end test campaigns, sensor and data acquisition strategies for new programs, and establishing the standard for test reporting and data integrity for the organization.
Design Partnership: Demonstrated ability to create formal networks with key contacts outside your own area of expertise (e.g., Firmware, Reliability, Safety) to align validation plans.
Analytical Rigor: Ability to manage complex issues by exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Sense of urgency and self-driven to hit difficult schedule targets.
Leadership & Mentorship: A proven track record of serving as a technical or team lead, training and educating other technical staff, with a strong track record of proactively and deliberately removing blockers for others.
External Test Lab Partnership: Proficiency in understanding in-house and external lab capabilities, and direct/coordinate test execution at external labs per business needs.
