Hamlet is looking for a Lead Product Engineer to join our small but mighty engineering team. This is a hybrid position for somebody who is excited to commute to our fledgling office in Oakland, CA, 3 days a week.

Hamlet’s mission is to make public information more accessible. We are a venture-backed startup using AI to transform mountains of unstructured data into a digestible format that gives our private- and public-sector customers a sizable information advantage.

What You’ll Do

The Lead Engineer will report to our Head of Engineering and will have the following responsibilities:

• Be a leading, full-stack contributor to the delivery of our AI and data-driven B2B software products.
• Write code that sets the bar for software quality in the team, and mentor our software engineers on the craft of building great software
• Collaborate deeply with product stakeholders including Design, Product, Marketing, and Operations leads
• Drive technical initiatives across our stack including frontend, backend, data infrastructure, and AI, linking technical decision-making to the overall company and product vision.
• Provide architectural direction and vision to the team

• Feedback-Oriented: You know how to deliver product iteratively and you seek to construct tight feedback loops in order to navigate the unknowns of creating software in a startup environment.

Skills and Experience

• 8+ years software engineering experience, preferably in a startup context
• Expertise in some or all of the following:
  • Modern AI Stack: LLMs, RAG, Eval, search, embeddings, vector stores
  • Python
  • Web Application development
  • Modern frontend technologies like React, NextJS, Typescript
  • Cloud Infrastructure (bonus: AWS)
  • Backend Services / APIs
  • Data Engineering
• Comfort with XP/agile methodologies including pair programming (we pair more than half of the time)
