Malaica is a healthcare startup based in Nairobi/Kenya. We have developed a program to make pregnancy joyful and safe. After getting a lot of traction with parents who pay for the program out of pocket, we are in the process of adding partnerships with Kenyan health insurers. We are now looking for a new team member to accelerate this development.
Role Description
This is a full-time role at Malaica located in Nairobi County, Kenya, with flexibility for some remote work. As a Business Development professional, you will be responsible for successfully building Malaica’s business with health insurers. You are strengthening the current value proposition jointly with the Malaica team, build strong networks with all the relevant stakeholders, structure collaborations and build long-term partnerships that are attractive for pregnant women, insurance companies and Malaica.
What do you need to do to get an amazing performance review after the first three months?
- Optimize value proposition: You quickly gain a deep understanding of Malaica’s current offering, health economics, strategy and the status quo of the discussion with health insurers. On this basis you optimize the value proposition and marketing materials for health insurers.
- Reach out to health insurers: You reach out to 10+ Kenyan health insurers and kick off / advance the discussion. You document the conversations and use the learnings to continuously improve our value proposition. You nurture internal champions within insurance companies and build strong ties to decision makers and relevant stakeholders.
- Sign a first pilot: We are aware that building a successful business with health insurers will take years. However, we want to see that you are able to close deals. Most probably this will be a small pilot with one of the insurance companies with which there are already established relationships.
Requirements
- Shared vision: You are passionate about making pregnancy safer and more joyful.
- Education: You have a degree from a renowned university. This can be in actuarial sciences, business, technology, medicine or a related field.
- Experience: Solid business development experience in the Kenyan health insurance space is a must. You have successfully scaled innovative solutions in this space, either internally within the insurer or externally as a supplier.
- Hands-on: You are hands-on and a fast executer. You enjoy being on the road and building sustainable partnerships.
- Ambition: You are a highly ambitious person. You like a fast-paced environment, are a fast learner and go the extra mile to make things happen.
- Humble: You value impact and meaningful contributions over status, fostering a respectful and supportive team environment.
Benefits
- Entrepreneurial environment: You will be a key person in an ambitious, fast-paced global team, with a lot of space for your own ideas and initiatives.
- Flexibility: While we expect a certain presence at our office in Nairobi, you have a lot of flexibility to work from anywhere you like. We don't believe in micromanagement but in joint setting of objectives and handing over accountability.
- Development: Your job profile will be upgraded continuously as we keep growing. Working at a highly dynamic company will result in a steep learning curve.
Are you fascinated by the idea of redefining the pregnancy journey for millions of women? Would you like to work in an ambitious, fast-paced global team? If yes, please apply by July 31, 2024.
