Description

The Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment across the hospital. The role involves routine and deep cleaning, infection-prevention practices, waste handling, linen management, and maintaining high environmental hygiene standards across patient, clinical, staff, and public areas.

The role holder is expected to consistently maintain Malaica’s standards of cleanliness, discretion, professionalism, and patient-centred service.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect theatre, patient rooms, consultation rooms, offices, corridors, waiting areas, washrooms, and other hospital spaces.
• Perform routine and deep cleaning in accordance with hospital schedules and hygiene standards.
• Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and PPE.
• Collect, segregate, and dispose of hospital waste in line with approved waste-management procedures.
• Handle, distribute, and maintain clean and soiled linen appropriately.
• Ensure patient rooms are cleaned, replenished, and ready for admission, discharge, or transfer.
• Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials, toiletries, PPE, and other assigned consumables.
• Identify and report safety hazards, maintenance issues, spills, and infection-control concerns.
• Maintain cleaning equipment, stores, and assigned areas in a clean, organised, and safe condition.
• Provide courteous, discreet, and professional service to patients, visitors, and staff while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
