Company Overview
Promise modernizes how government agencies and utilities support people in financial difficulty. We build technology that makes it simple for residents to receive benefits, engage with assistance programs, set up flexible payment plans, and stay on track—while helping agencies increase efficiency, recover revenue, and deliver services with dignity. Our mission is to transform public systems so they work better for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.
Our team includes experts from companies like Palantir, Google, Stripe , and esteemed government leaders. We work hard and believe deeply in what we do. We're looking for excellent people to build innovative, resilient technology.
Backed by over $50 million in funding from top investors – such as Reid Hoffman, Howard Schultz, Michael Seibel, Y Combinator, 8VC, The General Partnership, First Round Capital, Kapor Capital, XYZ Ventures, and Bronze Investments – Promise has been recognized as one of Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies of 2022,” “Forbes Next Billion-Dollar Startups 2024,” and Y Combinator’s #1 GovTech startup.
Role Overview
Promise is seeking a Business Operations Associate to work directly with our leadership team on high-impact strategic and operational projects that drive growth, efficiency, and innovation. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and execution-ideal for someone with 2+years of post-MBA experience who thrives in fast-moving, analytical, and cross-functional environments.
You’ll own initiatives that touch revenue optimization, RFP automation, and internal enablement-partnering with GTM, Finance, Product, and Operations to improve how Promise scales. From building dashboards and streamlining workflows to automating complex government RFP processes and refining sales materials, your work will directly influence how Promise serves millions of people more efficiently.
This is a rare opportunity to join a mission-driven growth-stage company, working on projects that blend strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and execute strategic special projects that improve company efficiency, revenue performance, and operational excellence.
- Design and automate processes for RFP responses, pricing proposals, and contracting workflows in partnership with Sales, Legal, and Product.
- Support revenue optimization through data analysis, pricing studies, and cross-functional coordination with Finance and GTM.
- Develop internal tools and materials-from board decks and investor summaries to customer-facing sales enablement resources.
- Model and track key business metrics, including pipeline velocity, deal conversion, cost efficiency, and program ROI.
- Work with Product and Engineering to evaluate automation opportunities and operational tooling improvements.
- Create executive-ready reporting and business insights that help guide decision-making across the organization.
- Act as a utility player, stepping into ambiguous areas where leadership needs leverage to get critical projects done.
What Will Enable You
- MBA with 2+ years of post-graduate experience in business operations, consulting, investment banking, or strategy roles.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects from conception to implementation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience building executive-ready materials (slides, memos, dashboards).
- Comfort with SQL, Excel/Sheets modeling, and data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.).
- Exposure to SaaS, GovTech, or mission-driven startups preferred.
- Hands-on experience with CRM or workflow automation tools (HubSpot, Salesforce, Airtable, Notion, etc.).
- Strong bias toward action - comfortable working autonomously and iterating quickly in an early-stage environment.
- Deep alignment with Promise’s mission to modernize public systems for the people who need them most.
