At Twilio, we support diversity, equity & inclusion wherever we do business. We employ thousands of Twilions worldwide, and we're looking for more builders, creators, and visionaries to help fuel our growth momentum.

About the job

This position is needed to expand our growing Segment Advisory Services team at Twilio.

CDP Advisory Architects unify business strategy and technical problem-solving to serve Segment’s largest customers. As the strategic component of Segment’s Professional Services organization, Advisory Architects take on complex data strategy challenges and drive alignment across collaborators for Segment’s largest enterprise customers. Advisory Architects are hands-on technical problem-solvers who also have a keen awareness of the big-picture implications of their work. In doing so, they reinforce Segment’s position as a trusted advisor and guide in the industry.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be required to:

  • Solve the toughest technical and strategic challenges for Segment’s largest customers

  • Serve as a thought leader and trusted advisor to Segment’s largest customers

  • Align collaborators and stakeholders on their customer data collection & activation strategy

  • Coach customers through their internal roadblocks or setbacks around CDP implementation

  • Navigate customer politics or personality conflicts causing misalignment around their CDP

  • Design scalable CDP architectures which activate value cases with Twilio Segment at the core

  • Audit & optimize customer data architectures throughout the full customer data lifecycle

  • Discover & prioritize customer data value cases which achieve desired business outcomes

  • Guide customers through implementation strategies to drive monetization or analytics goals

You’ll also have an opportunity to:

  • Guide customers on building custom functions or SQL queries to realize advanced use cases

  • Build custom data visualizations to better illustrate architectural challenges & opportunities

  • Synthesize discovery insights & recommendations into succinct, compelling presentations

  • Document validated designs and standard processes to address complex implementation challenges

  • Educate and enable other Solutions Architects on Advisory standard methodologies

  • Develop playbooks and presentations that offer Advisory Perspectives on groundbreaking CDP topics

  • Develop and refine internal Advisory team processes to ensure consistency across our engagements

Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • You are a technical problem-solver with at least 2 years of hands-on CDP implementation experience. You’re comfortable enough with complex architectures, streaming data APIs, and behavioral instrumentation approaches that you’re able to understand tricky high-scale problems and work with customers to creatively design and iterate on solutions.

  • You are generative and collaborative both with internal teams and customers. You can recognize and leverage the strengths of your teammates and customers in an idea or project, and you understand how to ask leading questions and make insight-driven observations to generate and continue a discussion creatively. You’re not satisfied with tactical question-and-answer discussions.

  • You are constantly curious about the challenges you’re asked to solve and the solutions you propose. When proposing a solution, you constantly ask “why” and “what if” around the downstream implications of your ideas. When more information is required, you have the stamina to dig in with rigorous curiosity while leaning on technical insight and product knowledge. You can inspire others with your curiosity–from marketers and product managers to engineers and analysts—and senior executives too.

  • You step back and zoom out from questions or problems to see the big picture—and you’re equally adept at communicating that big picture to others. In cases where a customer presents a problem, you’re curious about what is unsaid and seek to understand how it affects the whole of their customer data architecture. This means taking a holistic view at tools and data flows in place, teams and processes that are impeding success, or specific implementation issues. You recognize that stepping back doesn’t mean you’re required to solve all the problems you see, but it does require that we identify opportunities to be prioritized for later resolution.

  • You agree with, can explain, and can easily apply the Customer Data Maturity framework as outlined in this book recently published by Twilio-Segment as part of your work with customers. This includes conducting customer data maturity assessments of customer workspaces, explaining the maturity stages and pillars to customers and prospects, and connecting specific customer challenges to approaches and activities outlined in the book.

  • You are a natural presenter who can easily engage any room. You understand the importance of telling stories around your slides, and you communicate in a way that can be understood by engineers, marketers, product managers, analysts, and executives.

Desired:

  • 2+ years of Segment implementation experience

  • Experience guiding change management around CDP migrations

  • Experience as a management, strategy, or growth hacking consultant

  • Ability to synthesize complex inputs into streamlined recommendations

  • Strong strategic competence and ability to lead multiple engagements at once

  • Experience authoring and delivering thought leadership content and presentations

  • Familiarity with data storytelling techniques and platforms

  • Extensive customer-facing experience and experience presenting to a room of executives

  • Experience conducting discovery and solutioning activities around complex technical topics

  • Expertise with gSuite (especially Sheets and Slides)

  • Experience with SQL, Javascript, and/or Python

Location
