SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our IT Applications team and play a crucial role in supporting the development of healthcare API and interoperability solutions. As part of our Center of Excellence for APIs, interoperability, EDI, and HIE, you will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable, high-performance systems for seamless data exchange. This role is focused on backend development, ensuring compliance with healthcare industry standards while leveraging the Microsoft Azure platform to deliver secure and efficient cloud-based solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• API Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust APIs in C# and Python that support data exchange between healthcare systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as HL7, FHIR, and EDI X12.
• Backend Engineering: Build scalable backend systems to manage healthcare data processing, storage, and exchange. Utilize Azure cloud services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and API Management to ensure reliable data transactions.
• Healthcare Interoperability: Develop solutions for real-time data exchange across healthcare systems and with external partners. Implement and optimize interoperability protocols like HL7, FHIR, and EDI to enable seamless integration with various healthcare platforms and vendors.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Design and implement cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure, leveraging services such as API Management, Azure Functions, and Event Grid to build efficient and scalable architectures.
• Data Integration & Transformation: Create processes for mapping, transforming, and normalizing healthcare data across systems. Ensure seamless integration with EMRs, data warehouses, and third-party platforms while maintaining data integrity and security.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure that all data exchange processes comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. Implement security best practices for API development, including encryption, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and data masking.
• Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Work closely with clinical, operations, and IT stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business goals. Collaborate with the development and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration, deployment, and maintenance of APIs and services.
• Testing & Maintenance: Develop automated testing and monitoring solutions to ensure API performance and reliability. Perform debugging and root cause analysis to resolve production issues efficiently.

KEY PROJECTS:

• Healthcare API Integration: Develop secure APIs for integrating internal systems with third-party healthcare providers and services, ensuring real-time, compliant data exchange.
• Interoperability Solutions: Lead initiatives to build data interfaces for EDI transactions and Health Information Exchange (HIE) using standards like HL7 and FHIR.
• Cloud Migration & Optimization: Assist in the migration of on-prem healthcare systems to Azure, optimizing performance, scalability, and security for mission-critical applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on backend/API development.
• Proficiency in C# and Python with demonstrated experience in building and maintaining high-performance APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly in using Azure Functions, API Management, and Logic Apps.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7, FHIR, and EDI X12.
• Experience with cloud-based architectures and microservices design patterns.
• Deep understanding of secure API development, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and encryption best practices.
• Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in healthcare IT with a solid understanding of HIPAA and other healthcare data privacy regulations.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in data transformation and integration tools for healthcare systems.
